The Great 2008 4th of July Backgammon Tournament And Chinese Schezuan Stir Fry Light em Up 07/05/08

As usual, these parties many times have their origin after karate class on Thursday night, and this one was no exception. After playing a set, I was only up on Rick by 1 point, I think.

Friday afternoon, 4th of July, we went to the early movie to see WALL-E and then up to Castaways on the river in Dover for dinner. We played three full sets (nine games) of real back and forth action. By the end of all that, I was only up on Rick by 3 points. We had some brutal games.

Colin, Marissa, and Gary joined us for some games and had dinner with us. It was a really festive time and the restaurant deck was packed with people waiting for the fireworks to start at 9:15 just across the river.

The kids had other things to do and headed out around 7:45. Rick and I played a couple more games to finish out the thrid set and then went back to the house to play more backgammon. I finished up only a couple of points ahead. At some point even we get backgammoned-out, and so we closed out the night by watching the movie As Good As It Gets.

And Saturday, I had The Great 2008 4th of July Backgammon Tournament And Chinese Schezuan Stir Fry Light em Up dinner party for a few friends who were free. We had some really intense games, and finished out the night with the movie Crimson Tide.

Frotuntely, by Saturday he weather had finally settled down. Over the last two weeks it has either been really hot and muggy or rain. But the day of the party, the sun was out, just a few clouds, and down in the 70s. A great day. So great that I swept off the deck and washed all of the gear down in case we wanted to play outside. In fact, I sat out there for a couple of hours reading before the party.

Just a few of us because of the holiday weekend, but who can have more fun...

Linda and Rick had some of their best games. No scars or lumps this time...

So, here's the deck all set for a party! Beautiful day with temps in the low 70s, though Rick said it was actually chilly down in Kittery, ME. It did get a little overcast as the evening wore on, so that's probably what was going on the seacoast that had the temps down. It was really cool that night as well.

And what do you think I'm reaching for? And yes, some of that did go into the sauce.

These two again... It's the Rick and Tim Show... I forget who won the set. Doesn't matter; they'll be back at it Thursday night after class anyway.

Well, it didn't take them until Thursday; they went at it again after dinner. It was their screams that took us into the movie of the night, Crimson Tide. How appropriate...
