Easter - 03/23/08

Well, at the last minute the kids decided they were coming to come to my place for Easter Sunday dinner. Now, I usually fix a ham, but I do need a few days to plan and get myself in the mood for such an ordeal. But, with the late notice I really wasn't keen on the whole thing so I opted for a new recipe for grilled and then baked pork chops in a shallot and herb red wine sauce. I also made some skillet sauted green beens and parsely and oregano russert potatoes.

I told everyone that we'd eat at 6:00pm so everybody could get on with things, so I started the process with a glass of cabernet a little after 4:00pm as I chopped shallots.

Someone had brought the newest Harry Potter dvd, so they popped that in and that was great background for the chef as he/I toiled away in the kitchen.

Everyone showed up about 4:30pm or so, and hung around watching the chef for about as long as they could bear. Then, off to watch the movie - which I think is difficult to follow. But then... F.O.P. - what do they know... It was great to be together and share the day.

I'm sure Colin could care less about whatever it is that Harry Potter is yelling about right now...

The chef's area just before I got on with the heavy lifting - and then the place went up for grabs as I shuffled between three separate preparations going on at the same time.

I told everyone we'd eat at 6:00pm and I think it was just short of 6:15 when we sat down around the table.
