Easter Happenings 03/27/05

This is the story of Marissa and Peter's Great Easter Adventure.

We got up Saturday morning with a task to not only lay in supply of videos for Easter, but also to get a ham. Marissa has been staying with me for a couple of weeks now and absolutly insisted that I fix a ham. "It's Easter and you always have ham on Easter so: you're—getting—a—ham".

Ok, so I figured I'd swing by Shaw's market and pick up a small ham for the two of us. But noooooooo... that would be too easy. There are no small hams. The smallest that I could find was almost 7 pounds - surly enough to feed a herd of water buffalo. But there was no getting around buying that ham. Marissa would hear none of it: "You're buying that ham." So I bought the damn ham.

Well, we got back to the condo around 10am and started putting the food away when I looked into the freezer and see the stash of pizza that we have. I have no idea where such a collection could have come from, but there is a lot of pizza in there. Marissa and I looked at each other and said - well, let's invite Rick and Galen over. We'll play some backgammon, have a pizza orgy, and watch one of the videos that we got. And that's just what we did and these are the pictures to prove it! Colin showed up around 5:30pm and joined in the fun.

Sunday, Marissa and I went to the 11am Easter Mass at St. Joseph's here in Dover and then back to the video store to exchange 2 of the movies we saw Saturday for 2 more. We also had to stop back off at Shaw's to pick up a couple more bottles of soda because Colin said he was going to drop by. I suggested to Marisssa that I would take her for bacon and eggs but she insisted on buying the fixings and making it at home. Score another one for Marissa! Wonderful brunch - we were both stuffed.

Colin joined us around noon and woofed down a beef and bean buritto. We played some backgammon and watched one of Marissa's requested movies (for the 3rd time...) - AVP: Alien Vs. Preditor. Marissa wanted to pick some things up at the house, so Colin followed us back. They both really got on my case about my filty car, and so Marissa washed it for me. Colin headed up to York, ME to be with his grandparents while Marissa and I went back to my place as I had to get the dinner process started.

While I started some of the preliminary work, Marissa finished the movie and then brought my car out of the garage and vac'ed out the inside and trunk and wiped everything down for me. When she got in, we sat down and started the next movie in our marathon. About half way through, I had to work on dinner preparations and get the ham into the oven for round one.

After a few hours of rotating between the movie and more car cleaning, some computer work (doing this page!), and dinner prep we had a busy day! It was great. We ate about 6:30pm and while Marissa took a shower I cleaned up. Then we finished the movie, I fixed a cup of green tea, and we started the final movie of the day: Deep Inpact. And that's the story of Marissa and Peter's Great Easter Adventure!

This first group of pictures is from Saturday night.

Current Picture
Marissa and Rick Downs tolerating the verbal abuse from Rick's brother Galen. At a way, Galen! Push enough of those buttons on Marissa and she'll turn on you next...

Current Picture
Colin and Rick Downs in one of their more heated games. The trash talk was really flying between these two! They are appealing to Marissa who just eggs them on.

Current Picture
Rick Downs contemplating his fate between games.

Current Picture
Galen Downs looks on as Colin battles his brother Rick. Here they seem to be doing more thinking than talking; a truly rare thing for those two tonight!

Current Picture
Galen Downs and I had a great time. We played quite a few games and he's now beginning to see some of the moves on his own. He does not, however lack for putting out the trash talk regardless of his skill level. But with my Killian's Irish Red at the ready, I was able to ignore him.

Current Picture
Colin just thinks he has Rick Downs on the ropes.

Current Picture
Colin knows he doesn't have me on the ropes. I wrapped him up real tight in those ropes and wouldn't let him go.

This second group of pictures is from Easter Sunday.

Current Picture
Colin arriving Easter Sunday morning. Great looking ride, Colin.

Current Picture
"Dad, stop with the pictures already"!

Current Picture
Marissa was just finishing washing up the late breakfast/brunch dishes when Colin arrived. She had cooked a great meal of scrambled eggs, bacon, and home frys.

Current Picture
This friendly attitude between Marissa and Colin didn't last 2 minutes until they started in on each other. I almost threw a flag on the whole deal and called play off. They finally settled down and had a couple of rowdy games before we started watching one of the movies of the day: Alien Vs. Preditor.

Current Picture
The chef pulling the ham out of the oven Easter Sunday afternoon 2005. Man, was I ready for this or what!

Current Picture
This picture was taken for those doubting I could do something like this! And it was terrific - Marissa will attest to that!
