Christmas Week Vacation At The Samoset Resort 12/26/04

For about the last 10 years, we have gone up to the Samoset Resort in Rockland, ME over Christmas week vacation. We just couldn't pass up opportunity to do it again.

It was really nice to be able to put the hectic software engineering down and just sit by the pool and read The DaVinci Code. Colin and Marissa enjoyed some pool time, but are getting to the age where they are looking for a little more action. In past years before the Samoset changed hands, it was very family centric with just tons of activities Christmas week for kids of all ages to do, games and movies every night. It was great. But now the focus seems to be toward weddings, meetings, and conventions.

So, this may be the last time I go up because it just wouldn't be the same without the kids, and I'm not sure they will want or have the time to do this again. It was a great time, and so I'll just share these pictures that both Colin and I took - Colin with the digital camera I got for him for Christmas.

Looking left off of our unit's deck at the mouth of Rockland Harbor out into Penobscott Bay and the famous Owl's Head lighthouse.

Sweeping right from the deck looking down the Rockland Harbor Breakwater - 3/4 of a mile long. You can see how rough it is with the spary flying across it.

Colin and I decided to take a drive in the snow storm we were having. The following series was taken on the drive out to Owl's Head Light.

Man, that just looks cold...

By the time Colin got the delay timer on the camera figured out I thought my feet were going to fall off from frostbite! It was bitter cold and the wind was just howling around us. Colin had to run back and forth between us and the camera 3 times before we got this shot, so I hope you are in great appreciation for its beauty because we almost froze to death getting it!
